It's a pleasure to have you in class. If you are like me, I was quite apprehensive about how I would succeed in my college speech class many years ago. Let me assure you - you'll love the class and you'll discover that you'll gain more confidence for all of your oral presentations during your college career. Your responsibility from the start is to be committed to hard work and to concentrate on developing your skills. Do all of the required assignments and you'll do well. Again, welcome to our CAS 100 class - I eagerly await a great semester.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 217 of 217Hello everyone and want to congratulate everyone on the good job on the impromptu speech. Some of the speeches were funny. I thought the impromptu speeches were going to be hard and I did think I would get anything out of. However the topic that I got I really did not know much about so it was hard to talk about something that you don't really know a lot about. At least I know I can get up and talk about something that I know little about and try to do my best. It may actually be beneficial to me in the future.
I thought that the help that was given was a good thing, but something the students who should get help don't want help when they really need it.
I hope everyone has a fun weekend.
I just want to start by saying I thought everyone did a really good job on the impromptu speeches. Im sure I can speak for a number of you, that I didn't really know what to expect with them. They didn't turn out that bad I thought. I thought it was a fun way to earn bonus points and give a speech. I have to agree with Mike that I was very happy I chose the topic I did because I don't know what I would have said about fashion. I would of more than likely came up with something random, so I guesse its a good thing I didn't get it. However, I thought Caitlin did a good job with it she seemed to have alot of knowledge about it. I thought everybody did a good job on the speeches considering the circumstances and all.
The rest of the week I felt went pretty good also. I didn't feel we had alot of work to do the main thing was helping others get their speeches done and ready to present. I helped Logan with his, and I feel we improved it greatly. We worked on quite a few things, we worked on internal summaries, his organization, and we even discussed his dress. I am sure that he will do 100% better on this speech, and I am sure the rest of you who have to present will do a really good job too. I am looking forward to hearing all of your revised speeches and I just want to end by wishing all of you who have to give speeches good luck.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that can't wait for summer to get here. With all the nice weather, it's so hard to spend all day inside! The impromptu speeches on monday were a nice little activity. It was pretty fun and seemed alot more relaxed than any of the other speeches. They actually had humor in them. I'd have to say I like those better than the real speeches. Everyone seemed to have a fun time doing it too.
I should be worrying alot more about my final speech since I decided to make up an entirely new speech. Could prove to be a bad idea, but oh well. It's hard to find time to focus directly on it. I'm sick of working two jobs! I know that my research seems to be a weak point with my speeches, so thats one thing that I definitely need to improve.
Good luck everyone!
hey everyone sorry i didn't to get a chance to write my blog until now. i spent most of my weekend in a hospital getting my wrist checked out. i hurt it playing basketball on thursday night. i have two hairline fractures on each side of my wrist. so its not as bad as it could be. anyway on monday we did impromptu speeches and i thought they went very well. it was a fun exercise that i thought everyone did very well on. just like mike said i feel that in the last couple weeks the work load is getting bigger. which is expected i guess. hope everyone has a good last couple weeks. i know that this class was very time consuming and i thought everyone did a nice job handling it. i know i can't wait for summer to get here, and i know most of you feel the same. in the impromptu's i wish i would have gotten a better topic than i did because i really didn't know what i was talking about haha. as most of you could probably tell. but this second semester has been very enjoyable for me. hope to see everyone around in the future.
good luck on your final speeches and with the rest of the semester.
This semister started out rough, but as we got into it, it got a lot better! I know that all of us have improved greatly in the class. From the beginning of the year till now I have gained a lot. I had taken speech class in highschool, but it wasn't nearly in debth as this one. I learned how to give a properly organized speech. I also have the confidence to talk in front of people, and not be as nervous as I used to be. Also, I never knew about audience anlaysis befor, but i'm glad we learned about it becasue I knew how interesed my audience was in my topic, and what their thoughts were on it. There was a great responsiblity I had experienced, becasue you had to make sure your speech was in the guidelines of the grading sheet. The hardest part was making sure your speech was in the time a loted. Also, you had to make sure your speech was organized properly, and your sources were proper.
Peer critiques and the videos were very helpful in our speeches. I found it to make things easier. By us video taping ourselves we were able to see what we had done wrong. When you are giving a speech you dont realize what you are doing unitl you see it first hand. Also, the peer critiques that the others students in the class did were very helpful. This allowed me to see what they thought of my speech, and they brought up points that I may not have thought of myself. They were positive ciritques.
The first week of school was over whelming with the syllablus we got, and I know I thought it was understandable, but as the weeks went by I ended up getting confused with some things, thats why when the teaching assistent Christy came in, it really helped. She explained to us what we needed, and what was expected. She also gave us some tips to help us succeed in the classs. She also reminded us about the audio tapes and quizzes that we needed to complete. Also, when Dr. Mino came in for a class she gave us some expamples of an introductory and really explained the green sheet to us. That was very beneficial. When Dr. Pam came back and we were able to all catch up, the class seemed to go much smoother, and I belive everyone enjoyed it much more. I myself know there were times when I thought I didn't know if I was going to make it through the class, but with time and help from others I am happy to say I think I did a pretty good job in the class.
Over all I know that I have benefited from the class, and I am able to give a proper speech much more confidently. There were some good times that we had in the class, especially with the impromtu speeches, everyone was laughing and having a good time! I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer, and I am glad that I got to meet you all!
As I agree with Kristin, we did get off to a rough start and we did get through it wonderfully. This class has honestly made me a better overall student in all of my classes. The Listening part of the class really helped me out.
Listen, as we all learned, can help the speaker become more comfortable if you do your part by being an active listener. Listening, however, is harder than it seems but has improved my in class performance whether in speech or my english class.
The peer critques also helped us with this active listening and we all are able to identify what type of structure was use, sources, audience analysis, and internal summaries. This helped out alot to realize how well of a listener we really are. The speeches themselves have gotten better through practice by everyone. The speeches really had helped with my confidence and my organizational skills.
Also like Kristin has stated, the sylabus did look understandable but as the weeks went on, I had become confused like the rest of the class did. Then christy and Dr. Mino explained everything and even gave us tips and hints to succeed in this class.
I enjoyed class this semester and I like the impromtu speeches. I gained alot for in class skills and gained an enourmous amount of everyday life skills.
Hey whats up guys!!! I cant believe that the year is almost over!! I had to do my blog early bc im a leavig to go to buffalo for an appt.
My responsibility as a student has grown alot. I realized the importance of being on time and having your homwwork and that done on time. I learned alot from CAS 100 and i feel that i am better prepared to speak.
The audience analysis and critiques have helped out alot. I Was able to see the areas of my speeches that were weak and areas hat i needed to improve on. I didnt take them offensive becauase i realize that they are only making me do things better.
Next i want to talk about the teacher. Dr Pam was a good teacher. She was very prepared for class and did a pretty good job. At times it was comfusing and but overall it was a good class. At the beginning of the semester Dr pam told us she only had 3 days in order to prepare for the class. She did a good job.
Sorry my blog is short im running late but the class was very helpful and it helped out alot. I am glad i took it.
I hope to see you all around campus next year have a great summer!!!!
Final Blog assignment-
1- As a student in the beginning I was in this class because it had to be done. I was in it to get through it without any intentions of trying hard at all. I quickly found out that this was not going to happen and that developing some kind of conversation basis amongst everyone in the class was crucial to doing well in this course. Being on a good basis with everyone made speech giving a lot easier because I was more comfortable with the audience to which I was speaking too. I also found out that getting to know everyone at least something about them anyhow made it easier to understand the angles to which they were giving their speeches. As a student I have learned a lot about the people in the class and am glad I have gotten to know them. Since I came from a small town located in the mid-point of Johnstown and Indiana I knew basically no one at the beginning of this year of classes.
2- As far as peer critiques and the videos go I feel this was an effective way of learning more about the way you present your own speech. Getting a peers opinion is often more effective than a teacher because they have a similar mindset as you do as opposed to a teacher who may have an entirely different perspective on things. The video definitely allows you to see how you did because you are actually viewing yourself as the audience did. It allows you to keep in mind what you screwed up on and what to improve on. It also allows you to see what worked well so that you may make a note to include that in speeches to come.
3- During the few weeks that Dr. Pam was not there things were very confusing at first. Mixed signals and various other things made it difficult to understand certain tasks. But I feel that Christy rose to her challenge and did well to figure out the answers to the questions we had. She was very informative and had a good time relating to us since she is still a student and recently had the same class as us. Dr. Mino was extremely informative on the day we had her. Though she seemed almost mad at us for the progress we had she is very knowledgeable in the field of speech. And as far as Dr. Pam goes I did learn a lot about giving a speech in this class and now know the green sheet like the back of my hand. I even typed up a paper last night and found myself using the structure of the green sheet in typing that paper. When proof reading it I felt like I was almost reading speech haha. All in all I learned a lot from all three instructors and though things were rough at first after Dr. Pam returned from Kuwait things fell into place pretty well.
4- Now to get into the speeches this week. I was very impressed once again. It never ceases to amaze me with the improvement made each time we gave speeches. I guess speech giving is just like driving a car, the more you do it the better you become at it even though you will occasionally have your off day. I noticed a lot improvement all across the board with everyone. I feel that as a class everyone has become much better at giving an oral presentation. I feel and I hope that everyone else feels that they are much better at presenting information to a class.
5- On a final note, congratulations everyone I hope everyone gained something from this class because I know I have. I am now more confident in myself when it comes to presenting to a group of people and I feel that this class will be beneficial in other classes to come. Good luck everyone in your future endeavors.
Having Dr. Pam gone for the first few weeks was tough i agrre. I didn't think I would be able to even pass the class. I was completely lost but Cristy and Dr. Manoe helped clear up some things but i wasn't completely sure as of what to do and how to do it until Dr. Pam came back. Things got a lot easier than.
As for the self critiques they helped me see exactly what i was doing that i didn't do right. The peer critiques were helpful but seeing you actually do your mistakes made the self crituques work best for me so i wouldnt do the same mistake again.
I had a lot of fun in this class and learned alot about public and group speaking. I also gained alot of confidence when speaking in front of groups of people.
I believe I have grown greatly in this class. I worked very hard in this class, and thought I have improved greatly. I belive I took a lot of responsibility in the class. First, we had the quizzes and audio tapes we had to listen to and that was a different experience becasue I wans't used to that. Then we had to prepare for our speeches, which was harder than I expected. I never knew there was so much organization and preperation for a speech. As the year progressed, I found it much easeir to prepare for my speeches.
The videos and peer critiques were very helpful I thought. By looking back on my video I was able to see what mistakes I had made, and with the peer cirtiques from the other students in the class, I got to see what they thought I lacked in. They had very positive comments, and I enjoyed reading them. After my informative speech I took their criticism, and applied it to my persuasvie speech, and thought I did a much better job.
Christy and Dr. Mino helped the class out greatly when we were in confusion. Christy explained to us some basic skills that we would need in the classs to get a good grade, and Dr. Mino did a good job at explaining the green sheet, and giving us examples of an introducotry speech. After Dr. Pam got back, everything got sorted out and we had our ups and downs but overall the class was enjoyable. I thought everyone did a great job on their speeches, and everyone had improved greatly. Especially with the final speeches that were given this week! everyone did awesome!!
I hope that everyone had a great summer and good luck with your finals!
Final blog CAS 100, well speech class was nice this week we all were informed and persuaded during the final round of speeches. I thought that everyone showed areas of improvement and most looked genuinely relieved to get that last graded speech out of the way. First round of speeches was Monday when Brandon and Ashley gave their presentations. Brandon was first and I thought he did a wonderful job on his persuasive speech about budgeting. He looked comfortable at the podium spoke with confidence and had some good supporting points. I found his speech important because if you replaced budgeting money with budgeting time the significance is the same. If you don’t budget your time effectively you will have trouble achieving success.
Next up was Ashley; I always enjoy Ashley’s speeches because she seems extremely caring about the animal community. Her presentation as always was extremely professional as well as knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed her opening about the hungry tick in her attention getter. It reminded me of a scary movie where the victim is being chased by a predator. Ashley also seemed very relaxed while speaking, no doubt because she was presenting something which she had extensive knowledge about. I think she would make a great veterinarian.
Next up on Wednesday was Logan, Jimmy, and Clifton. Logan started off and gave a persuasive speech about recycling. He used a very nice problem solution structure discussing the increasing space being taken up by garbage, and how recycling can help to solve the problem by discussing four steps in the recycling process. I thought Logan had good structure throughout his speech and also seemed very knowledgeable about his topic.
After Logan was Jimmy, his speech was about stress more particularly about the different ways to deal with stress. Jimmy used a lot of resources in his speech and audience analysis, I think that when you use audience analysis it helps keep your crowds attention. Jimmy had nice volume and also very good structure. I also think that his topic was important because we all get stressed and it’s important to know how to handle it.
Last to speak on Wednesday was Clifton, his speech was about the importance of the elections, both the primaries and the general election. Clifton gave a lot of good information about his topic and educated me about some things which I was not aware of. He looked very professional and looked comfortable presenting his speech. I think that with the general elections coming up this year and the idea of electing a new president with a whole new set of ideas should have everyone exercising their right to vote, after all I once saw on a billboard the slogan “ If you don’t vote then don’t bitch ” and I can totally agree with that.
Last group to speak was on Friday, which was Jessica, Wil, and Josh. Jessica was first up and her topic was about breathing techniques she learned from her yoga studies. She discussed some of the benefits of using Shitali Pranayama (cooling breath ) & the Kapalabhati technique(cleansing breath). Jessica did a nice job pointing out how these breathing techniques can help improve various areas of your life. I also found the handouts to be very helpful, especially to someone who had no education in this field. Her structure seemed good and she seemed a lot more relaxed than her last presentation. Maybe she practiced some of those breathing tips before she spoke.
After Jessica’s speech it was Wil’s turn. Wil gave a very informative speech about global warming, or more specifically two health risks which are associated with global warming. He discussed West Nile virus including causes and prevention and skin cancer particularly prevention tips and the increased exposure to UV rays. Wil had great structure and seemed very comfortable up there. It is unfortunate that he ran into a little trouble on the second main point because his speech to that point was excellent. But l do agree with him sometimes we have those days when things just don’t go right, all we can do is just try to get through it and live for another day.
The honor of the last presentation for the semester went to Josh. For his final presentation josh gave a speech about exercising, specifically how working out and eating properly can lead to a healthy life. Josh did a nice job on his speech as well; I thought he had a good structure and some great information. He used a decent amount of sources and also involved the audience within his speech. Josh had good volume and the speech seemed to flow nicely from his first to second point. I thought he had a nice conclusion also to his speech when he reminded the students that there was a place to exercise right here at the school.
To conclude my final blog for CAS 100 I would like to begin by saying what a pleasure it was to share the classroom with all of you. After the first month or so of this class I wasn’t sure what to expect. When speech started we began with a full classroom of students, then people began dropping out like crazy. I have to be honest I wasn’t sure what to make of that whole sign your syllabus thing, it was the first time a professor had ever ask me to do that. I also looked for an alternative to speech during that first week, because to be honest it sounded a little more intense than I expected. Instead I decided to stay and face the challenge, along the way we had a few bumps in the road, but all in all I am glad that I didn’t drop this class. In the beginning of the semester we had a bit of a lapse in communication between what needed to be done and what was being done. During the time Dr. Pam was away we were educated by proctor Christy Fulton and two classes with Dr. Mino this was helpful but to be honest it made the class more challenging because the people who were filling in although were helpful, they didn’t seem like they were fully aware of what was going on. I do believe that I have benefitted from what was taught throughout the semester, and this class has changed the way that I approach not only speaking publicly but also how I write my papers.
During the semester we were asked to give four or five various types of speeches to help us gain an understanding of the structure that was being taught. I would have to say my biggest challenge was my struggle with the proper way to transition from one point to the next. My problem was that I was writing my speeches like they were a term paper adding sentences to build up to my next point. This in effect was making my speeches long and too wordy ( good for a paper not for a speech). I have to say that watching the other members of the class speak was a huge help to overcome this problem, also listening to example speeches which were presented gave tremendous insight as to how to improve my transitions and improve my speeches. Before we presented our first graded speech we were informed that we needed to bring something to class to record our speeches. I wasn’t sure why this was necessary because I already felt nervous enough about speaking, the idea of recording myself made me even more apprehensive about my presentation. But I have to say, that recording my speeches was a huge benefit. After watching the recording I was able to make some observations about my presentation which I don’t believe I would have received well if someone else had told me. For many of us we are our own worst critic and seeing yourself up there performing certain mannerisms, which you’re not pleased with is a great way to self correct yourself before your next presentation. All in all I feel that I have received a tremendous amount of experience from this class. There have been other classes which I have taken that when they were over I felt that I was strictly there just for the college credits. During the year it has been stated by me as well as other students that speech is an important tool for our future careers. There can be little argument that every one of us will have to give some sort of presentation in our lifetimes, if for no other reason to obtain a job. In conclusion I would just like to say that I believe I have benefited from this class and there are certain things I have learned which I believe will help me achieve the goals which I have set for myself. I would like to wish everyone the best of luck in the pursuit of their own goals and again I feel privileged to have shared the classroom with a great group of people.
As you all know, this week was the last week for giving speeches. I want to congratulate everyone who spoke this week for a job well done. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for myself on my speech. I’m still very upset with myself on how I blanked and just lost my place altogether.
My role as a student in this class was to develop communication skills in front of an audience. I never really had to speak in front of a group, except for one time in high school. This class has showed me how to relax and feel confident in myself when speaking about a topic. This class has also showed me how to take time to research and gather information to direct it towards my audiences needs. The biggest challenge I faced in this class was being able to establish my credibility. I finally figured it out though in my persuasive and the start of my final speech.
The peer critiques helped a lot in trying to revise my final speech. They showed me what I did wrong and what they thought looked good when I spoke. They also gave you a since of comfort when speaking because you knew that they were actually looking for good things, instead of trying to point out every little detail wrong. The videos also helped you see what you did while speaking. I know I felt more comfortable speaking during the persuasive speeches than when I spoke the first time.
Dr. Pamela helped us understand the concepts of speaking effectively in front of people. Although it started out rough, I think she adjusted well and so did we. We both adjusted to each other’s demands. I think we would all have a stronger understanding of her if she didn’t have to go to Kuwait. Christy helped us understand how to structure our speeches to the standards of Dr. Mino’s specifications. Dr. Mino, herself, further helped us by telling us exactly how to structure our speeches. She explained how to create a good attention getter, credibility, and state your residual message and make it flow together.
What a semester! I'll be the first to admit that I didn't put as much attention into this class as I probably should of. Working two jobs and having alot of other classes definitely caught up to me this semester, so I ended up slacking a little when it came to speech. I did learn a good bit in the class though, and it was always suprising to hear people say that I seem confident while speaking when I'm anything but. For me, self critiques didn't help too much mainly because I'm always very hard on myself and reviewing my mistakes just seems to make me more irritated with them.
Everyone improved alot with their confidence levels. It's fun to remember how nervous everyone seemed when we first gave our introductory speeches. It does help getting to know your audience because you don't feel as much like they're judging you. Audience analysis was a technique that I had never used before, and one that was helpful especially when it came to getting to know your audience.
The start of the semester was very confusing for everyone and I had originally thought about just dropping the class and taking it another time. I'm happy to see how everything improved from those first couple of weeks. This class was a different type of experience than what I've been used to, but it has been interesting. I wish everyone luck in their future careers. Stay out of trouble!
Hello everybody! I can’t believe we are writing our last blog for this website! I must say that this semester has been quit an adventure. I feel that we as students have come a long way when it comes to speaking and being more comfortable standing in front of a group of people. These are all things that we will benefit from later in life and are key ingredients in becoming successful in any job field. I feel that it is safe to say we have kept improving on our weaknesses throughout the semester, and for that we are all much stronger speakers. This week we listened to the final speeches. I really enjoyed everyone’s speeches and felt you all did a great job. Everyone seemed to improve from the first speech! Great job!
The first person we listened to this week was Brandon. I felt that Brandon did a great job reconstructing his speech. It was very noticeable that he took the time to fix the small things that made the speech much improved. He had good sources as usual and used a good amount of audience analysis. This was a well given speech.
The second speech we heard was from Ashley. I thought Ashley was very impressive from the point where she was able to keep great eye contact with the audience. She was well prepared and organized. She only had to refer to her notecards, which kept her from reading it. Ashley also did a great job including a great attention getter by stating how dangerous "Ticks" can be. This was a very interesting and well-done speech.
On Wed. we listened to three more speeches. The people who gave their speeches were Logan, Jimmy, and Clifton. I thought all three did a good job and improved from their latest speeches. I first off would like to talk about Logan. I thought Logan was full of information about recycling. He was well spoken and he had a really power point to go with his speech. Each slide went good with what he was informing us with in his speech. I though it was well organized.
Next we listened to Jimmy. He looked very professional. Jimmy’s topic on stress was very interesting and he seemed very into it. I felt he did a nice job keeping eye contact with the class and he spoke very fluently. He did a nice job using his cards only for reference. Jimmy’s speech was well organized and I know that this probably helped him roll through his speech with great detail like he did. Very nice Jimmy, it was much improved.
The Last speech we heard on Wed. was Clifton. I thought his topic went perfectly with all that was happening in our state this week. The speech topic on voting was well done. I felt that Clifton’s speech might have been the most improved. He seemed much more confidant giving his speech to the class this time. I felt Clifton’s speech was full of information about voting that I’m sure those who weren’t registered to vote may have a change of heart. Well done this time Clifton.
Friday we listened to Jessical, Will, and Josh. I thought Jessica did a good job. She was very sourcefrul and was very into what she was speaking about.
I thought Will's speech was well organized. You could tell in his speech that he had all the main points and summerys.
After hearing Josh's speech, i felt he improved from the last one. He might of came up a little short in time, but overall i thought he gave good detail and informtaion. I thought everyone did a great job! Its been great to hear from you all and i wish you a safe and fun summer! Great job guys!
Since this is our finial blog for this class. I wanted to congratulate everyone on how well their speeches were. I would like to talk about a few of the finial speeches. I thought Jimmy's speech was very easy to follow and it was very organized. Also he seemed to know about organ donation since someone in his family is on the organ donation list. Jimmy seemed to be interested in the topic that he gave. Clintons speech about the election and what all takes place during the election year was very informative. His topic was a review for me, because my senior year of high school I had to take a government class. He also tried to keep us interested in the topic as well. I thought Logan's speech was persuasive about recycling. He seemed to know a lot about his topic and was interested in the topic also. Joshes speech about working out and eating health was also very good. I thought he had a lot of good sources and his speech was very organized. Wills speech on global warming was also good even though he blanked but that happens to all of us.
What I got out of this class was being able to talk in front of people. I think it will benefit me in the future. I thought that somethings that we were asked to do was a bit to much. However, I understand why Pamela had us do all the things such as blogging and things like that. I think Pamela wanted us to experience and try all different types of communication.
I thought with Christy and Mono coming into the class while Pamela was gone was very helpful to the class. Mono explained a few things that were unclear to me and to the class I believe. I thought Christy was most beneficial to the class because she took this class and told us what we should really focus on to get a good grade. I thought that she gave all of us good advise for the class.
Hey everybody, the year is coming to a close. I think that this was a good semester for the most part. There was a lot of good that came out of it. I think that in this cas 100 class I learned a lot not only about what it takes to write a succesful speech, but also a lot about myself. I haven't ever had a class challenge me the way this class did. I will admit that at times I was very confused, but there are a good group of people in this class that are always willing to help out. What I noticed as the year went on was that from our first informative speech everyone improved greatly. Everyone was so willing to learn in order to get better at speaking. In the beginning speaking in front of people scared the sh*t out of me, but now i still get butterflies but am comfortable standing in front of people. I learned that being on time and being organized is very important. I never realized how preparing for a speech can be so important for your actual speech. I can admit that I stuggled in this class at times, but I always tried. I think that being paired up with Mike really helped out a lot. He was very informative and made preparing for my speech so much easier. I would really like to thank him for his time to help me, it was greatly appreciated. I felt like Dr. Pam did a great job in this class for preparing for it so suddenly. She definitly knew what she wanted us to get out of this class and I think she accomplished that. Just want to finally say that I hope everyone has a fun, safe summer. Later.
As the semester is coming to a close, I would like to say that I have learned a lot of new speaking skills throughout the past few months. I have had the opportunity to speak many times in the past, but I was never really critiqued. I think that in the beginning, it was easy for me to go up and give speeches since I was kind of used to talking to people. I think that the things we did during this semester helped to make the class as a whole better speakers. I have learned how to better structure speeches. I think it is a very critical thing to do when presenting any kind of information. I also have found myself using the green sheet on other things besides speeches , like reports I have to do. I think that it makes the information flow more nicely if it has a good structure to it.
I think that peer critiques were definitely a plus to our speeches. I think it was good to hear what our classmates had to say about our speeches, the good and the bad. It was positive because, even if there was something we were doing wrong, we could fix it for our next speech. In a way it was helping to raise our grades. Some of the littlest things we may not realize we do , others will pick up on.
Also, I think that the videos of our speeches was a positive addition to our class. Being able to see what we did good or bad was a benefit for our future speeches. I know when I first started giving speeches, i was very nervous. My mom told me I had some nervous habits and I didn't believe her. But seeing it on camera made me realize that , yes I really do have some bad habits that I had to work on. I think that in the classroom setting, it was good to have others be able to see what they were doing wrong as well.
In the beginning of the year, it was kind of confusing having no set professor. It was hard because different people were telling us to do different things. As things got straightened out, it was easier to follow what we were supposed to do. I think that Dr. Pam was helpful whenever help was needed. I personally think she did an excellent job at returning emails and helping me whenever I had a question. I don't think my speeches would have been as good without the guidance of Dr. Pam. Structuring was a little confusing for me for our first couple of speeches. I have given many speeches but never had to do a structure sheet to go with it. She was able to help me to understand what she wanted.
Overall I think that this class was very beneficial for the long run. I think that it was not too hard either. I think that there were some rough spots along the way, but things got straightened out.
I hope everyone has a good summer!
